Care Guide

Glass

We use a single large piece of polished glass to complete our leaning mirror. The reflective surface is mounted on sandstone and will require occasional basic maintenance.

Maintenance and Cleaning

In order to remove dust and light stains, we recommend using a lint-free cloth or some dry newspaper. For cleaning slightly greasier stains such as fingerprints we recommend a glass cleaning spray which should be wiped with a lint free cloth. To prevent streaking, stop wiping when the glass is almost dry and let the uniform film of moisture evaporate naturally.

Warning

Do not use abrasive materials such as harsh sponges or steel wool on the glass surface. All glass is breakable and the mounted mirror surface will crack when exposed to considerable frontal pressure or sudden impact from a sharp or heavy object. Please note that our warranty does not cover damage caused by strong abrasives, harsh cleaning products or improper handling.

Leather

Leather is a natural material, which ages beautifully when well maintained. All types of leather have innate natural characteristics. Variation can occur in the natural grain from one hide to another or even within the same hide. The leathers we use for upholstery have been treated and sealed to withstand daily use.

Maintenance and Cleaning

The best maintenance for our leather upholstery is regular and careful wiping with a soft dry cloth. In case the surface of the leather appears dry, we recommend using natural and colour-neutral leather cream, applied using a dry cloth. Spot cleaning is not recommended for leather. Depending on the leather type and colour, spot cleaning can cause unnatural discolouration.

Warning

Avoid using harsh brushes and cleaning products, vacuum cleaners and sharp objects as these might cause damage to the surface of the leather upholstery. Note that pets can scratch and damage all leathers, and non-colourfast clothing can cause permanent discolouration of the leather. If possible, do not expose leather furniture to direct sunlight for extended periods of time or place leather items close to warm radiators or fireplaces as heat can dry out the leather and will cause cracking. Please note that any damage caused by pets, harsh cleaning products or sharp objects is not covered by our warranty.

Mild Steel

Some of our products and parts, such as the console table, are made using mild steel. As these parts and products are fabricated and finished by hand, variations in patina or colour are a natural result of the manufacturing process. Tooling marks and surface scratches are part of the character of the finished pieces. Our blackened steel products are sealed with wax, which over time will loose some resistance to moisture. Our production method and finishes allow the metals to age naturally and develop their own character and patina through use.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Periodic maintenance of blackened steel items may be required. For light cleaning, the steel can be wiped with a slightly damp cloth, and buffed immediately with a dry cloth. Very mild solutions, such as generously diluted dishwashing liquid is suitable. To maintain the original appearance, the wax finish can be refreshed with a light application of wax. Maintenance is recommended every six months or depending on location and level of use. For treatment of minor corrosion or surface rust, we recommend rubbing the affected area lightly with very fine abrasive cloth, and re-sealing with a lightly buffed coating of wax.

Warning

Used aggressively, abrasives may scratch or remove some of the blackened patina under the wax. Never use bleach, ammonia, or other aggressive household cleansers. Please note that condensation from hot and cold drinks will leave rings on the blackened steel top of the console table. Coasters or placemats can protect the finish. Steel hardware should not be installed with dissimilar metals as this may initiate galvanic action, and accelerate corrosion of the steel. Please note that our warranty does not cover damage caused by strong abrasives, harsh cleaning products and improper repair.

Powder Coated Metals

We use powder coated metals for our shelving system, bed frame, aluminium chair and dining tables. Our choice of finishes yield a lightly textured, matte surface that is easy to clean and maintain.

Maintenance and Cleaning

For daily cleaning, wipe the surfaces with a dry cloth. Minor stains can be removed from painted or powder coated metals with a clean cloth and minimal water. If possible, make sure to always remove the part you are cleaning and wipe the painted or powder coated surface dry after applying moisture. For thorough cleaning, wipe the surface clean of dust and wash the shelves with a cloth, adding some mild solution of detergent and water onto the fabric. Always dry the surface after applying moisture.

Warning

When cleaning painted or powder coated metals abrasives such as steel wool should be avoided completely. Do not clean these types of surfaces with bleach and do not spray or pour chemicals directly onto the painted or powder coated metal surfaces. Please note that our warranty does not cover damage caused by strong abrasives, harsh cleaning products and improper repair.

Solid Timber

We use solid timber (White American Oak and Walnut) for our lounge chair, dining chair, daybed and bed frame, which we finish with a single coat pigmented oil. All of our timber is of the highest sorting class, which should not contain defects such as cracks, unsound dead knots or sapwood. Solid timber is a highly resilient material, and with proper care it will retain its naturally smooth, warm texture.

Maintenance and Cleaning

To maintain timber furniture, wipe the surface regularily with a dry cloth. When cleaning stains, carefully rub the stain with a soft cleaning cloth dampened with a mild solution of water and dishwashing liquid. When removing candle wax, let the wax solidify and remove as much as possible with a sharp object, but be careful not to scratch the surface. After removing the stain, gently wipe the surface dry with a dry cloth or paper towel.

Scratches and most dents can be mended if wood fibres have not been broken. We recommend that you get in contact with us to discuss the best way to restore your item.

Warning

Never pour cleaining products directly onto furniture and never use steel wool, abrasive brushes or cloths and harsh chemicals. Please keep timber furniture out of harsh sunlight and use coasters or placemats to prevent stubborn stains. Please note that our warranty does not cover damage caused by strong abrasives, harsh cleaning products and improper repair.

Stainless Steel

Stainless steel (grade 316) is a non-plated metal with strong corrosion and scratch resistance which we use for manufacturing the glides used on our shelving system, bed and daybed.

Maintenance and Cleaning

In order to maintain the condition of these parts and surfaces, regularly wipe with a microfibre cloth to remove dust. Stains can be removed from stainless steel using warm, soapy water or a product specifically designed for cleaning and buffing stainless steel.

Warning

Chlorine- and acid-based cleaning products will cause steel to rust so these should be avoided. Do not use abrasive materials such as steel wool, steel brushes as they will cause surface damage and corrosion. Please note that our warranty does not cover damage caused by strong abrasives, harsh cleaning products and improper repair.

Stone

We use sandstone and verde antique in our collection. Sandstone is a slightly soft and porous material. The type we use is locally sourced and its colour ranges between warm off-white to a slightly yellower shade of tan with soft grey and brown veins. Verde antique has been a popular decorative facing stone since ancient times. This stone has a dark green colour with white veins and takes a high polish.

Maintenance and Cleaning

As sandstone is a porous material, our sandstone pieces are all treated with a sealant that prevents liquids and stains from being absorbed into the material. Depending on placement and use, your sandstone furniture may need to be sealed time and time again. We recommend to regularly wipe the sandstone surfaces with a soft cloth. To remove stains, please use a cloth dampened with a solution of mild detergent and water.

Verde antique is a much less porous material and is finished with a high polish and stone sealant. To clean this stone, we recommend using a soft cleaning cloth dampened with a solution of mild detergent and water.

Warning

When cleaning any stone, please avoid abrasives such as steel wool. Please be advised that most natural stone sealants should be applied by trained tradesmen, therefore, we recommend you contact us prior to resealing your sandstone furniture. As sandstone is a slightly softer material, it might chip or deform when exposed to a sudden impact of a sharp or heavy object. Please note that our warranty does not cover damage caused by strong abrasives, harsh cleaning products and improper treatment.

Textiles

The textiles we use for upholstery are chosen to suit domestic and commercial use with an emphasis on function and durability.

Maintenance and Cleaning

The best maintenance for our textile upholstery is regular lint brushing or vacuuming on low power with a soft brush designed specifically for upholstery cleaning. Wet stains should be removed by softly dabbing with a damp lint-free cloth or sponge. In case the stain is stubborn, we recommend using a solution of gentle detergent and lukewarm water.

Warning

Sharp objects can scratch and damage textiles, while exposure to non-colourfast clothing can lead to discolouration. When cleaning or removing stains, do not rub with force as this can damage the textile or can cause the colour to fade. Please note that our warranty does not cover damage caused by strong abrasives, harsh cleaning products and any stain removers. We unfortunately will not be able to take responsibility for textiles that are not specified or recommended by our team.
